Instant Rava dhokla is one of the quick version of traditional Gujarati dhokla. This recipe is a very easy and speedy solution to your dhokla cravings. This recipe is originally a recipe from Gujarat.

This recipe is prepared from fine sooji also known as Rava or semolina. Curd is used to giving sourness to the dhokla. “Dhokla” is originally a savory cake recipe with a bit of sour which comes from fermentation. As, we are making an instant version, “curd”/”yogurt” works as a substitute to give sourness to the recipe.

I am making my batter quite plain but you can add ginger chili paste as well. Plain Eno fruit salt is used to get instant fermentation. so, The Rava Dhokla is quick and easy to make, without requiring any grinding or fermenting, yet it is as fluffy and tasty as you would expect a dhokla to be, making it an ideal dish to whip up for breakfast or evening tea-time.

How to make rava dhokla recipe with step by step photos:

  12. put your steamer on the stove.

  14. check with tooth pick.If comes clean then it is ready.
  15. prepare tadka.

for tadka,

  1. heat oil in tadka pan.rava-dhokla-priyascurrynation
  2. add mustard seeds. When they crackle add asafoetida.rava-dhokla-priyascurrynation
  3. add curry leaves.rava-dhokla-priyascurrynation
  4. add green chilies.
  5. pour this tadka on dhokla.rava-dhokla-priyascurrynation
  6. serve hot.

Ingredients  

  • 1 cup sooji /semolina/rava
  • 1 cup butter milk, OR 1/2 cup curd only
  • ½ cup water
  • salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar, |to your tase
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon eno fruit salt, plain

for tadka,

  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • ¼ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • a pinch of cumins
  • 4-5 nos curry leaves
  • 1-2 nos green chilies

Instructions

  • Take a mixing bowl.
  • Add semolina and butter milk.
    1 cup sooji /semolina/rava, 1 cup butter milk
  • Mix it well. make sure to avoid lumps.
  • Allow it to set for 15-20 mins at-least.
  • Now, add water.
    ½ cup water
  • Add salt to taste.
    salt to taste
  • Add sugar and lemon juice.
    1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Mix it well.
  • Add eno fruit salt and prepare a smooth batter.
    ¼ teaspoon eno fruit salt
  • Take a pan and grease it with oil.
  • Pour the batter in greased pan.
  • Put your steamer on the stove.
  • Gently place your pan in stemaer and stream dhoklas for 15 mins n highflame.
  • Check with tooth pick. If comes clean then it is ready.
  • Prepare tadka.

For tadka,

  • Add curry leaves.
    4-5 nos curry leaves
  • Add green chilies.
    1-2 nos green chilies
  • Pour this tadka on dhokla.
  • S¼erve hot.

Notes

  • Sooji usually takes 20 mins to soak the moisture of the curd. allow it to soak it properly otherwise you will not get a proper result.
  • If you don’t have eno fruit salt available then use  ¼ teaspoon baking soda. It will give the same result.
