I always love this food and trust me, i never think of diet when I eat chatpatta food 🙂 .well,this is a season of pickles.A market is flooded with all type of mangoes.Pickles are very difficult for me when it comes to following the traditional recipe. Pickles are the recipes which meet perfections only after some experience.

 Indian “Thali” is incomplete without pickles.There are many varieties of pickles and we can divide them in the category according to their taste. Some are spicy, some tastes sweet and some with sourness.

The recipe i am sharing today is spicy pickle recipe. This is kinda instant pickle recipe and known as “ rai wada marcha“(chilies with yellow mustard) in all over gujarat. You can hardly find a home in gujarat without this chili pickle.

We eat this rai marcha with gathiya and methi thepla.

Gujarati chili pickle is made with very few ingredients but yes yellow mustard dal is the main ingredient.if you don’t get powdered yellow mustard, don’t worry i have a solution. please read the post till the end for the solution.

Gujarati Raivada Marcha

Authentic gujarati style green chilli pickle with mustards.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Serving Size 1 cup

Ingredients

  • ½ cup green chilies sliced
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp powdered yellow mustard rai na kuriya
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • a pinch of turmeric powder
  • a pinch of asafoetida
  • lemon juice to taste

Instructions

  • wash and dry your green chilies and cut them into medium slices.
  • Take a bowl and make a mixture of mustard powder,salt,oil,lemon juice,turmeric powder and asafoetida.
  • Mix well.
  • Add sliced chilies and mix well.
  • store this pickle in sir tight container.
  • serve this pickle after 3-4 hour.

Notes

  • This pickle taste best after 24 hours but you can have immediately as well.
  • if you don’t find powdered mustard at store,follow this recipe-
    •  Roast your regular mustard on tava or pan for 5 min.
    • spread them on chopping board.
    • crush them using rolling pin/wooden roller or roti belan.
    • you will get fine powder of mustard .use this in recipe.
  • You can use any variety of chilies.I managed to get bhavnagri chilies in store so i am using that. chilies are totally depend on the spice level of your liking.
  • I have not tried this recipe using capsicum so i can not tell you how it tastes along with capsicum.
