I have tried dal fry at many restaurants and it is one of my favorite recipes. After trying several times at home, I finally managed to get the Exact taste as we found in restaurants😜. pigeon-peas split or toor dal is one of my favorite lentils so I prepared this dal fry using tur dal. you can even try this recipe moong dal also.

Restaurant-style dal fry is very easy to make at home😎. I tried to share each and every step plus tips I followed here.
To make dal fry recipe cook toor dal really well. Once it is done, use a masher or a ladle and mash up well as you will do for baby’s food. It is the dal itself that gives this dal fry recipe the required creaminess as we are not adding anything special or extra for richness. We are using chana dal to add a bit of nuttiness to the recipe
To make restaurant-style dal fry recipe, add butter along with oil for sauteing.
This dal fry is lightly spiced and with sublime flavors. Even toddlers and kids s who are not fond of eating bland dal rice will enjoy this flavorful dish. This is best eaten with rotis or jeera rice, steamed plain basmati rice along with ghee.
The consistency of the dal fry recipe is your choice, you can make it a bit thick if you are serving it as a side dish and make it a bit thin if you want to mix it with rice and eat.

dal fry restaurant style recipe
RATE RECIPEIngredients
- ½ cup toor dal
- 1 tablespoon chana dal
- 1.5 to 2 cups water, to boil dal
- 2 tablespoon oil
- ¼ teaspoon cumins
- 1 tablespoon ginger-chili-garlic paste
- ½ cup onions, chopped ,1 medium
- ½ cup tomato, chopped,1 medium
- ¼ teaspoon red chili powder
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ¼ teaspoon coriander powder
- salt to taste
- fresh coriander , for garnishing
Instructions
- Boil you dal first. to boil, wash toor dal and chana dal well.
- Add dals and water and pressure cook dal for 4 whistles or 15 min on medium flame.
- Mash your dal well and keep it aside.
- heat kadai and add oil.
- Add cumins. when they crackle, add garlic,ginger and green chilies.
- Saute them until golden brown.
- Now, add onions and saute well on high flame.(until golden brown)
- Add tomatoes,salt , red chili powder, turmeric powder and mix them well.
- cook tomatoes until mushy.
- Now, add boiled dal and cook the mixture for 5 to 8 mins on medium flame.
- Garnish with coriander.
- Serve hot.
