curd rice is very popular in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. In the state of Tamil Nadu it is called “Thayir Saadam”. “Thayir” meaning “curd,” and “Saadam” meaning “rice.”

The method of preparing curd rice is super easy. It is mostly prepared by mixing cooked and mushy rice into the curd or yogurt.You can add dryfruits and fresh pomegranate further to make it rich.I tried to keep the recipe simple here as I have been asking to share simple every day easy pissy meals these days 🙂

Curd rice is often eaten accompanied by pickles such as chili, mango or lime.It also tastes good with chutney as well. I use regular kolum rice here to make this recipe and also, I just pressure cook my rice for 3 whistles to get the nice mushy rice particularly for this recipe. Also, I am using fresh homemade curd here.

Curd Rice, Thayir Sadam Recipe

Curd rice is a very famous south Indian recipe made from cooked rice combining tempered curd in it. The recipe is very light and has minimal flavours.

cooking rice 15 minutes

Serving Size 2 people

Ingredients  

  • 1.5 cup cooked rice
  • 1 cup curd/yogurt, approx
  • salt to taste
  • 2 medium green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp oil
  • ¼ tsp mustard
  • ¼ tsp cumin
  • 2 dry red chili
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp milk

Instructions

  • take a mixing bowl and transfer cooked rice to it.
  • mash the rice little bit.
  • add curd.
  • add green chilies.
  • add milk.
  • heat oil in tadka pan.
  • add mustard and cumin.
  • add red chilies and curry leaves.
  • pour this tadka on curd rice mixture.
  • mix it well.
  • enjoy.
