You can store this sambar powder for 3-4 months in airtight container.The shelf life of the powder is up to 6 -7 months but I usually prepare my masalas for 3 to 4 months only.

sambar powder recipe

sambar powder recipe is an aromatic south Indian style spice mix recipe prepared by grinding fresh whole spices together. it is also known as "sambar podi".

Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Serving Size 1 cup

Ingredients  

  • ¼ cup coriander seeds
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • ½ tbsp mustard
  • 8-10 curry leaves
  • ½ tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tsp coconut, dried
  • ¼ tsp oil, optional
  • 4-5 dry red chilies
  • 1 tsp urad dal (black skinless splitgram)
  • ½ tbsp chana dal

Instructions

  • take a pan and add a drop of oil in it.
  • add coriander seeds and cumin.
  • add mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  • add methi dana /fenugreek seeds and dry red chilies.
  • add coconut.
  • add urad dal and chana dal.
  • roast them on medium flame.
  • roast until it leaves aroma and turns into golden brown color.
  • let it cool down.
  • transfer in a mixer jar.
  • crush them to a fine powder.
  • store in airtight container.
