Cooking Chickpeas in the instant pot is a time-saver recipe. This method requires no prior soaking. Cooking chickpeas in the Instant Pot is in popular demand ever since I started sharing Instant Pot recipes on the blog.
This method comes as a rescue when I am in a hurry and forget to soak chickpeas.
I always prefer to soak chickpeas or any lentils before using it in the recipes as I believe it is good for digestion. I have grown up in a family where we always prefer homemade preparations. These preparations include making yogurt at home, making basic sauces at home, making spice powders, making lentils at home, etc. So, I was not aware of canned chickpeas and beans for a quite long time.
I find canned products very useful too. So on some days, I use canned beans, I followed my mom’s method to prepare everything, and on some days, I now prepare my recipes in the instant pot very quickly.
No soaking is required for this recipe
Yes, You read it right. This particular method to cook chickpeas requires no soaking at all. However, You can always do prior soaking. It totally depends on your choice.
How to cook chickpeas in instant pot without soaking?
First of all make sure to take good quality white chickpeas.
Transfer chickpeas in an instant pot and cover it with water. I am not adding salt at this time.
Turn on your instant pot and seal the lid. Make sure the vent is in sealing position.
Now press “bean” mode. seatback and relax 🙂
When the instant pot beeps, let the pressure release naturally.
Chickpeas are ready to use.
What if your instant pot does not have “bean mode”?
If your instant pot doesn’t have “bean mode”, You can either cook your chickpeas in “Pressure cook mode” or “manual mode”. Set 50 minutes time. Mostly, chickpeas will cook in 50 minutes, In some cases, It may require more time.

The instant pot saves the day again. We have bough dried lentils, and beans during the stay at home order. Did not even notice there was a bean setting on the instant pot before your post. LOL. Thanks so this timely post. Take Care
