Cajun spice blend is one those exotic spice mix recipe that is widely popular in the world. This recipe is a unique blend of spices that makes any dish super flavorful.
Cajun Seasoning is one of those recipes, I always want to try but somehow I couldn’t do it. Well, It is better to be late than never. I tried cajun seasoned potatoes at one restaurant in India. Before that, I didn’t know anything about cajun seasoning. I then searched and learn about it.
This spice mix has very prominent flavours which can enhance the taste of your potato fries, wedges, bbq potatoes and many more recipes. I tried making a dip from this cajun spice blend which I will share soon here.
What is Cajun Spice Blend?
Cajun Spice is basically a mildly hot spice powder recipe made from very common ingredients. It is a great spice powder recipe originated from cajun community.
The speciality of cajun cuisine is that this cuisine is based on locally available ingredients. This cuisine also has simple preparation methods too.
How to store Cajun spice mix?
You can store this cajun spice mix up to a month. Always use sterilized air tight container for storing this spice mix. I also recommended to use fresh and quality ingredients to increase the shelf life.
Ingredients to make Cajun Spice powder
Take a look at the ingredients below.
Cayenne pepper – well, This is an important ingredient. It is a spicy red chili powder. You can substitude this ingredient with indian red chili powder too.
Red chili flakes – adds more spiciness to the blend.
Other – garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, salt and black pepper powder. These all are the ingredients that makes the recipe unique.
How to make cajun spice mix?
It’s very easy. Take all the ingredients and mix it really well. Your spice mix is ready for the use.

Ingredients
- 1½ tablespoon cayenne peper
- ½ tablespoon black pepper powder
- ½ tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon oregano

- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
Instructions
- Take all the ingredients in a bowl.
- mix it really well.
- store in an air tight container.
This is a must have down here in Louisiana! We sprinkle it on a bit of everything lol.

I think your Cajun seasoning mix is really good! Every region is a little different but the majority is a blend of salt, cayenne, chili powder, black pepper, and garlic powder. Everyone can add a little of their own preference to the mix. =)

We love Cajun seasoning! The commercial stuff is WAY too salty, so we make our own, too. Our recipe looks pretty similar to yours, although I usually skip the salt (easy enough to add salt to whatever dish I’m making). Good stuff — thanks.

Priya, I was raised on the border or Texas and Louisiana which means I was raised on Cajun Spice mix. We always make our own and keep it at hands reach from our stove. Like a number have said, everyone makes there’s a bit different. Me, I go easy on the red pepper and add a little chili powder, ground sage and dry mustard. I’ll give yours at try.
