Nimbu Pani is one of our favorite summer drink recipes. Nimbu Paani is nothing but an Indian-style lemonade. Nimbu paani made with Jaggery is my mother’s favorite recipe.

At my house, We usually make nimbu paani with jaggery throughout summer. My mother loves this recipe and so as I. Before I move further, Let me tell you what is nimbu paani.

What is nimbu paani?

Nimbu paani is a sweet, sour Indian summer drink. It is a summer staple in India. Nimbu paani is a similar recipe to classic lemonade. “Nimbu” means lemon and “paani” means water. Usually, Nimbu paani is made with lemon, water, sugar, and salt. Further, flavors can be extended by adding mints, ginger, and sometimes some fresh berries.

There a lot of nimbu paani variations you will get in India. One such variation is making this classic recipe with jaggery.

Ingredients to make Nimbu Paani,

Jaggery – Jaggery is the main ingredient here. It is used instead of sugar in this recipe.

Lemon juice – I prefer freshly squeezed lemon here. You can use ready-made lemon juice as well.

Other – Salt, ginger, black salt, roasted cumin powder and a pinch of red chili powder are used here for the extra flavor. You can avoid roasted cumin powder, ginger, black salt and red chili powder but salt shouldn’t be avoided.

Nimbu paani shikanji (made with jaggery)

easy, tasty and classic summer drink – nimbu paani and that is too made with jaggery.

Serving Size 3 glasses

Ingredients  

  • 1 cup Jaggery, chopped or grated or powdered
  • 3 cups water
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • a pinch of red chilli powder
  • a pinch of black salt
  • 1 to 2 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 large lemon approx
  • 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder, optional

Instructions

  • First take a deep bowl and add jaggery into that.
  • Add water and stir it. Stir the mixture to melt jaggery quickly in the water. You can keep aside this mixture for 15 to 20 minutes or until jaggery metls. Note – Jaggery takes more time to melt in the water than sugar.
  • Once jaggery is melted properly, add lemon juice, salt, black salt, red chili powder and grated ginger.
  • Stir and mix it well.
  • Strain it and serve chilled.
