There is almost no difficulty level to prepare this recipe most of the time you will get frozen peas in your fridge. Actually, peas are parboiled first then it goes to the frozen process. you can check the FULL TUTORIAL here.So, you don’t need to boil your peas in this recipe.

I tried to make this recipe REALLY a VERY SIMPLE. I used bay leaf and cinnamon to give prominent flavor to the recipe. I didn’t use garam masala and any other powders like red chili powder I wanted to keep the dish SIMPLE and PLAIN. you can add mint leaves if you like. you can extend this recipe to a mint pulao as well. But If you don’t have any options then recipe can be your time saver.

matar pulao recipe |green peas pulao

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes

Ingredients 

  • 1.5 cup basmati rice, cooked
  • ¼ cup matar/green peas, frozen OR fresh
  • 1 tsp oil
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • coriander, for garnishing

Instructions

  • heat oil.
  • add cumins.
  • when they crackle, add bay leaf and cinnamon stick.
  • add onions and saute it.
  • add green peas and saute it for a while.
  • add salt to your taste.
  • add cooked rice.
  • mix them well. and cook for 5 mins.
  • garnish with coriander.

  • you can a pinch of garam masala if you like.
  • I am using boiled basmati rice here. if you don't have cooked rice, after adding salt in the recipe,add soaked rice along with water and cook until the rice is cooked properly.
  • you can use ghee instead of oil in tadka if you like the flavor of ghee in this simple recipe.
  • if you are using fresh matar/green peas , cook it for 2 mins before adding rice.
  • you can use leftover rice as well.
