I was quite excited while making this dal recipe and it is again a recipe from my neighbor aunty. You know what, We don’t eat such dals in gujarat. I never had masoor dal in my childhood. We use moong dal, toor dal, chana dal and sometimes urad dal in our thalis. I still remember that Saturday was the day for urad dal and “rotla” in my home.

Some tips and tricks

To make this dal, I made sure to soak this lentil properly. I soaked my dal for 1 and a half hour before cooking. The benefit of quality soaking is the lentils take less time to cook and you will get a nice creamy texture of lentils at the end especially when you are preparing Indian dal recipes.

After soaking and boiling the dal, I just prepare a simple and flavorful Tadka using garlic and onion.I this recipe, I Add a generous amount of turmeric powder as compared to others. the reason is to get a nice darker color of the dal. Rest of the things are very much similar to make this dal 🙂
