CurryNation Talks #9 March 2020- catch up on the little things in my life 😉 This is Priya and Prashant here – Duo behind this blog.

work situation

Hellos!

Life feels a little scary right now! doesn’t it? I spend a lot of time on the internet to know more about coronavirus updates and I guess you all are doing the same thing while sitting in your house. It’s reached us quickly here in Canada and the situation got worst in the first week of March. It feels like the whole world has changed in a very short period of time.

This major public health crisis, job losses, school closure, economic instability and a lot more things are uncertain and unpredictable. This pandemic comes as a major shock to everybody and spreading so quickly. Please take care of yourself and your family. Everything will be good soon.

Few lockdown and stores are opens for limited hours. Few grocery items are out of stocks already and we don’t know, when this situation will gets back to normal. Keeping this uncertain situation in mind, I have prepared myself and below is the detailed look at what’s happening in our kitchen right now.

Inside our fridge and freezer,

This is how My fridge looks nowadays. There are fruits and vegetables stocked up that would last for a few weeks. Full list below,

  • milk and curd (not in the frame)
  • vegetables like tomatoes, brinjals, spring onion, curry leaves, capsicum
  • fruits like oranges, apples and avocado
  • sour cream (not in the frame)
  • 1 pack of tortillas (not in the frame)
  • butter (not in the frame)
  • cheese
  • pickles and chutneys

For the freezer section, I actually didn’t buy anything much. Instead, I just chop my extra vegetables and stored them in a deep freezer. I made spinach puree, Indian curry masala paste and vada batter in extra quantity. Full list below,

Inside our pantry,

Most of the time, you will find these items in my pantry. I didn’t properly set my pantry yet, so I just take out some items from it and took a picture 🙂 full list below,

  • Regular pulses like toor dal, moong dal, chana dal, urad dal, kala chana, sooji, rajma (kidney beans)
  • Rice
  • Flours like whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, rice flour and dosa flour
  • Maggi packs,
  • Indian spices
  • snacks and biscuits
  • sugar, salt and chaipatti (tea leaves)

Our approach

Time is really difficult now but we are trying to be positive. Recipes are going to be flexible, minimal, comfy, easier, and creative (I guess).

We have already curtailed our grocery trips and other outside trips. I prepared some vegetable preparation too (check our freezer section) so that I can limit my vegetable shopping trip.

  1. These are unprecedented times that require creative measures. Keeping track of your pantry inventory and stretching these as far as they will go is the name of the game now. Stay well and stay positive as this too will all pass.

  2. Great post. I’m trying to keep my pantry and fridge stocked. It’s getting harder as I don’t like to brave the markets. I wish I had your delicious stash at my house. 🙂 ~Valentina

  3. Wow, thank you for sharing such detailed lists! It’s invaluable advice. I also really appreciate your candid talk about the situation. It’s crazy, unthinkable, but better knowing that we’re not all alone… Even if we’re all physically distant. Take care, stay well.

  4. Priya, you and Prashant are very wise to take Covid 19 seriously. It seems many younger folks (I’m an old guy) are just ignoring the crisis or not thinking it’s serious. It’s not just a threat to us seniors, it also hits younger people as well. I know because my daughter (in the USA) and two kids have had a dreadful time with the coronavirus over the past three weeks. They’re recovering, but very slowly. Be safe and well…

  5. I agree that we all need to be paying a lot of attention to the coronavirus. I don’t know what it’s like up there in Canada, but most people are taking it very seriously here in upstate New York. The problem is there are definitely people who aren’t. I saw a big group of adults all walking dogs together the other day…and they certainly weren’t social distancing. Ugh.

You also mentioned Facebook. Don’t even get me started there…haha. It’s a losing battle to chase all of the different changes in social media platforms these days!
