Gajar ka halwa recipe with condensed milk | how to make carrot halwa at home with detailed photos and video recipe.  Gajar ka halwa is a traditional dessert recipe eaten during Indian festivals like navratri, diwali ,holi or Eid. The main ingredient of the recipe is grated carrot and milk. Traditionally, this recipe is prepared with milk and sugar. I am sharing an alternate method that requires a bit less time.Condensed milk is already VERY sweet in taste so you don’t need to add sugar at all.

There is always a space for a dessert and I usually don’t care about the fats and calories when I have any dessert. 😉 I totally agree that this gajar halwa is a full of fats recipe but there are some powerful health benefits of carrots as well. carrots are a good source of antioxidants. Carrot helps you to boost immunity, to prevent heart disease,to lower blood pressure, to improve eyesight etc. Well, You will get the fresh carrots usually in winters so I called it “Winter Super special recipe” of mine.

I prepared this recipe on Sunday as it was our wedding anniversary <3 (I already shared the stories on my instagram and facebook.:) ) I prepared this recipe mainly because our friends were asking to make something typical Indian sweet and wanted a anni special treat 😉 . undoubtedly my choice was this gajar halwa because This is my season’s first halwa and Mr.husband loves gajar halwa a lot.

gajar ka halwa with condensed milk recipe

Very famous, typical and exotic Indian pudding recipe prepared with grated carrots. The recipe is also known as gajar ka halwa OR gajrelaa in many parts of India.

Serving Size 2 cups [approx]

Ingredients 

  • 500 gms fresh carrots
  • ¼ cup ghee / clarified butter
  • ¼ cup condensed milk [approx], to you taste
  • ¼ cup dry-fruits (almonds,cashews and pistachios), optional
  • 1 tsp cardamom powder
  • ½ cup milk

Instructions

  • wash fresh gajar/carrots and peel the skin of it.
  • grate carrots and keep it aside.
  • heat ghee.
  • when the ghee melts, add grated carrots.
  • saute it until it changes in color.
  • add milk.
  • mix it well.
  • boil the mixture until milk evaporates.
  • add milkmaid/condensed milk and mix.
  • keep stirring occasionally.
  • as you can see, milk will evaporate and mixture becomes thick.
  • add cardamom powder.
  • add some dry-fruits.
  • mix and stir until halwa leaves the sides.
  • serve hot.

  • you can use homemade condensed milk as well. I am using Amul milkmaid here.
  • always use fresh carrots.
  • you can store this gajar halwa in a refrigerator for 3-4 days. use an airtight container.
  • in case of storing, warm it enough before serving.
