What is dalgona candy?

Dalgona candy is an old-fashioned Korean sweet recipe made from sugar and baking soda. It has a sponge-like texture when baking soda is added but once the sugar cools down, It becomes as hard as a honeycomb.

It is basically a round candy and in the middle, you will find different shapes like star, cloud, umbrellas etc.

What is ppopgi(dalgona game)?

In the 1960s and 1970s, It was a popular game where street vendors used to send these candies and children would take up the challenge not to break the central shape of the candy.

In the Dalgona game, players have to carve out shapes from a Korean honeycomb cookie that is called Dalgona candy.

Recently this candy got huge popularity because of Netflix’s squid game show. Fans of this show call this candy “squid game candy“.

How to store dalgona candy?

Yes, you can refrigerate this candy for a day or two but not more than that. You may find it a little more hard once it is refrigerated. This candy is meant to be eaten fresh.

Ingredients for Dalgona Candy

This recipe requires just two ingredients – sugar and baking soda. You can use either brown, white, or granulated sugar for this recipe.

How to make dalgona candy?

First and foremost, Take a pan and spray some oil or some butter(just a little bit) on the pan. You can line your pan with parchment paper too. Don’t forget to spray oil or butter on the parchment paper too as sometimes, the paper will get stuck on the candy because of the temperature of sugar.

Take a pan and transfer sugar into the pan. Keep the flame low to medium. Do not keep the flame high as sugar will burn quickly.

Keep stirring the sugar. Once sugar is melted properly, add baking soda and mix it well. You will notice the spongy, bubbly texture.
