I adopted this recipe from a cookbook -“Dakshin”. This curry leaves chutney is thick in texture, sweet and sour in taste. Curry leaves have a unique flavor and aroma which makes this chutney different from other chutney recipes.

This recipe is very very easy to make and is a versatile recipe. You can serve this recipe with idlis,upma, dosa and even with pakoras. to make this, you need to roast curry leaves with bengal grams(chana dal). You can use coconut in this recipe. the color of the chutney may vary if coconut and green chilies are used. You can not store this chutney for more than 2 days as the flavor of the curry leaves slightly changes after days.

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup curry leaves, washed
  • 2-3 nos dry red chilies
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • ½ tbsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp chana dal
  • 1 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • 1 tbsp sugar, ,adjust to your taste
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • wash you curry leaves and keep aside.
  • heat oil in pan.
  • add mustard seeds and allow them to crackle.
  • add dry red chilies.
  • add chana dal and roast until golden brown.
  • add washed curry leaves.
  • add tamarind pulp.
  • add salt and sugar.
  • mix them well and cook for a minute.
  • transfer the mixture into a mixer jar.
  • crush to a smooth paste.
  • enjoy.
