Coconut chutney is very popular south Indian condiment recipe served with idlis and dosa. This recipe is actually a MUST recipe with vada, idlis, and dosa. This simple chutney recipe is also known as idli chutney, dosa chutney, thengai chutney or easy chutney recipe.

This recipe is actually I wanted to share for so long. Nariyal chutney is one of those recipes you will always find in my refrigerator.

This recipe is very delicious and quick. Fresh coconut is used in this recipe. the method is really simple.

how to make nariyal chutney?step by step photos:

take your mixer jar first.

add ginger, green chili and fresh coriander in mixer jar.

add fresh coconut as well.

add phutni(roasted gram),salt and sugar.

churn your chutney.

After first churn,add water or curd and crush to a smooth paste.

now, prepare tadka , heat oil in tadka pan. add mustard seeds,cumin, red chili and curry leaves.

pour this tadka over the coconut chutney and serve with idlis , dosa or vada.

coconut chutney recipe

Coconut chutney is very popular south Indian condiment recipe served with idlis and dosa.

Serving Size 1 cup approx

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup fresh coconut
  • ¼ cup fresh coriander, optional
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1-2 green chilies
  • salt to taste
  • suagr to taste
  • ¼ cup roasted gram
  • 1 spoon curd, or water to adjust consistency

for tadka

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin
  • 1-2 dry red chili
  • 5-7 curry leaves

Instructions

  • take your mixer jar first.
  • add ginger, green chili and fresh coriander in mixer jar.
  • add fresh coconut as well.
  • add phutni(roasted gram),salt and sugar.
  • churn your chutney.
  • After first churn,add water or curd and crush to a smooth paste.
  • now, prepare tadka , heat oil in tadka pan. add mustard seeds,cumin, red chili and curry leaves.
  • pour this tadka over the coconut chutney and serve with idlis , dosa or vada.

Notes

  • you can use either curd or water to adjust the consistency.I sometimes like to use curd.
