veg masala toast or aloo toast sandwich. A sandwich is one of the most popular recipes around the world. The recipe I am sharing today is a very popular Indian street sandwich recipe made with potato stuffing. This is an easy and simple vegetarian sandwich recipe with potato filling and It is an excellent lunch box recipe for kids. Serve this sandwich with some green chutney and tomato ketchup.

It is said that sandwich is founded around the 18th century. Each region has their own variation of sandwiches lich chicken sandwich, cheese sandwich, hamburger etc. In india, veg masala sandwich,chicken sandwich, cheese sandwich are commonly served.

Today’s recipe is made with potato filling and the green chutney recipe which I have shared earlier. I have prepared this recipe using whole wheat bread. You can use regular bread as well. The preparation of filling is very simple as you just need to boil potatoes before starting.

Before moving to the recipe here are some tips.

  • aloo masala grilled sandwich recipe is open ended sandwich recipe. add boiled peas, capsicum and even sliced tomatoes to make more colourful and tasty.
  • I have not added plain tomato ketchup, but you can add it to make spicier by adding hot and sweet tomato ketchup.
  • You can grill the sandwich with sandwich griller. if you do not have a sandwich grill, then use normal dosa tawa or pan like I used here.

So how to make masala sandwich recipe?

pressure cook your potatoes and mash it. keep it aside.

now, heat oil in pan. add mustard seeds, cumin and onions. add garlic as well and saute for 3 mins.

add boiled and mashed potatoes.

season it with turmeric powder,red chili powder,salt and coriander powder.

add some garama masala as well.

mix it well and simmer for 5 mins. filling is ready keep aside.

now, take bread slices and spread butter on it.

spread green chutney on bread slices.

spread potato masala and cover with the other bread slice and press gently.

then grill or toast on tawa adding some butter.

spread butter on both the outer sides of bread to make sandwich more crispy and golden.

now cut the bread into half and serve.

  • 2-3 medium large potatoes
  • 1 tbsp oil

  • 6-7 tbsp butter, for spreading and grilling
