Salsa de aguacate, how to make avocado salsa

Say YES! If you love creamy, zesty-flavored salsa. Salsa de aguacate, or avocado salsa, is a Spanish-inspired Mexican recipe made with five simple ingredients. This salsa recipe is a staple in Mexican kitchens and pairs beautifully with tacos, burritos, nachos, and even as a salad dressing.

What is salsa de aguacate?

Before we delve into the history, let me share that 'aguacate' is a Spanish word for Avocado. It is said that the Spanish arrived in Mexico in the 1500s and settled. Slowly, they started exploring recipes and introduced onions and garlic to the recipe. While some say it was the Aztec civilization that introduced these ingredients into guacamole, and later became a part of this salsa recipe as well.
Avocado salsa vs guacamole
Avocado salsa is often mistaken for guacamole. However, they are both similar recipes but not the same 🙂 Guacamole is more on a chunkier side and is a dip recipe, while salsa de aguacate is a smooth, blended sauce recipe.
Another difference is, guacamole is made with onions, tomatoes, cilantro leaves, and jalapeno peppers. It is a thick dip recipe that can be used as filling in burritos. On the other hand, avocado salsa has a signature semi-runny consistency, which is due to the use of water. Secondly, it has a zesty flavor because of the cilantro stems, and sometimes tomatillos are used as well.
