Mushroom Masala is a spicy Indian curry recipe which can be served with paratha, roti or naan. This Mushroom Masala is made with very basic ingredients hence this recipe is more like a homestyle mushroom masala recipe version.
Mushroom Masala is actually a North Indian Recipe that you will find in most of the north Indian households. I leant this recipe from my neighbour aunty when I was in Pune.
This mushroom masala is an easy-to-make, fuss-free recipe. I am sure all the ingredients that you will need for this recipe will be available in your kitchen and you might be using them on a daily basis.
Ingredients to make mushroom masala
I used regular button mushrooms in this recipe and I do recommend using button mushrooms only to make this recipe. For the seasoning, I used Red chilli powder, Turmeric powder, Garam masala and salt. Other ingredients are cumin, oil, onions, chilli garlic paste and tomatoes.

How to make mushroom masala curry?
Wash your mushrooms and slice it. Keep it aside. Also, slice onions and chop tomatoes. keep it aside.
To make this curry, heat oil in a pan. Once the oil is hot, add cumin.
Add onion, chilli garlic paste and saute for a while.
Once onions are light brown, add chopped or grated tomatoes cook for 2-3 minutes.
Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, salt and fry until oil starts to separate from the sides.
Now add chopped mushroom and mix well.
Cover the pan and cook the curry on low heat for 10 minutes. Stir once or twice in between. If the curry is too dry, add some water to it.
Check if mushrooms are soft enough.
Garnish with coriander leaves. Add lemon juice if you like (totally optional) and mix well.
Serve hot with any Indian bread.

- 200 to 250 gm white button mushrooms, sliced or chopped
- 1 tbsp oil
- Âź tsp cumin
- ½ cup onion, sliced (1 small size approx)
- ½ cup tomato, chopped or grated (1 medium size approx)
- 1 tsp chilli garlic paste
- salt to taste
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp garam masala
- fresh corianer , for garnishing
- ½ tsp lemon juice, optional
