Idli is basically a recipe from south indian region but has gained the fan base from all over the world I guess 🙂

These poha idlis are made from rice rava(idli rava), poha and buttermilk. This recipe has no grinding and fermenting steps so you can prepare this recipe within an hour. these poha idlis are soft, spongy and airy in texture. poh makes these idlis really soft while addition of baking soda makes the idlis soft.instantpohaidlirecipe

We are a fan of idlis and dosa but this is not a part of our regular breakfast recipes. however, we love to have idli and dosa once in a week or two. This is the reason I always like to try new variations.

instant poha idli recipe

Prep Time 35 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 50 minutes
Serving Size 10 idlis

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup poha
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup idli rava (rice rava)
  • salt to taste
  • tsp baking soda
  • oil, to grease pan

Instructions

  • take a large mixing bowl.
  • transfer poha into that.
  • add buttermilk and soak poha for 30 min at least so that it can soak moisture properly.
  • after 30 mins, add rice rava(idli rava).
  • add water.
  • keep it aside for 10-15 mins.
  • now add salt.
  • add baking soda.
  • meanwhile, preheat your steamer. and grease idli pan with oil.
  • mix the batter properly.
  • transfer into the greased idli pan.
  • steam for 15 to 20 mins.
  • enjoy.

Notes

  • you can use curd instead of buttermilk with the same measurement. because there is a water amount in buttermilk, poha will soften quickly.
  • always add baking soda / eno fruit salt right before steaming.
  • you can add baking soda in batches and steam them if you preparing in large quantity.
  • you can also prepare the batter before in hand and store in fridge. remember just before steaming add baking soda.
  • always steam the idlis on medium heat to get the soft idlis.
  • finally, if you are using thick poha then it requires more time to soak. so make sure you wash with water once and soak.
