Dhokla Is a savory cake recipe made from fermented batter of Rice and chickpeas. Any recipes which require fermentation will take minimum 8 hours for the batter to be ferment. However, I am sharing an instant version of the classic Gujarati khaman dhokla recipe made with white bread.
Dhokla is a famous Gujarati snack recipe. Actually, Dhokla and fafda are the recipes that represent Gujarat. When you think of Gujarat, “Dhokla” Is the name that comes to your mind first when you think of Gujarat. It may also interest you to know that “dukkia” was the initial name given to the dish in 1066 CE and later “Dhokla” word became popular in Gujarat.
Dhoklas tastes BEST at room temperature with green chutney and tea. I consider Dhokla+tea+green chutney as a complete package. I have also used sugar water and Curry leaves Tadka to give an exotic flavor and sweetness. It is a VERY easy recipe if your measurements are perfect.
I shared another version of bread dhokla earlier on the blog. The version I shared earlier is a “NO-COOK” dhokla version.I have got a lot of queries for that recipe and today’s version of dhokla is an improvised version. 😉
These delicious bread dhoklas contain a very lower amount of gluten. I used Plain fruit salt as well to get nice and fluffy batter. Since the sooji /semolina is used, this recipe cannot be claimed as complete “gluten-free” recipe.
