We follow a strict vegetarian diet so we don’t consume eggs hence I was searching for this royal icing substitute for a long time. This recipe is a handy recipe and gives the same result as authentic icing. This royal icing has no corn syrup too.
What is royal icing?
Royal icing is a white hard icing mostly use to decorate cookies. It is traditionally made from raw eggwhites. Royal Icing was developed in the early 18th century. Royal icing is sometimes used to decorate cakes too.

Well, Royal icing gets dry quickly. I suggest to make a fresh batch everytime.
is this 100% eggless?
Yes, As I have said earlier, This icing is made without any eggs or corn syrup and still gives the best result.
few tips to make perfect royal icing
- If you need a thick royal icing, add more confectioners sugar.
- If you need thin icing, add few drops of water.
- Keep all your utensils grease-free.
- Always cover the royal with a damp cloth. It helps to maintain the moisture as royal icing dries quickly.
- Divide royal icing among several bowls before adding any food colors.
- You can few drops of lemon juice into the icing. It helps to dry the icing quickly.
- You can add vanilla extract too.
