What is focaccia?
Well, Those who are new in cooking, Let me tell you, Focaccia is an Italian Bread recipe which has similar texture to pizza. Focaccia is usually made with seasonings and it has a rectangle shape. Focaccia al rosmarino (focaccia with rosemary) is a common focaccia style in Italian cuisine that may be served as an antipasto, appetizer, table bread, or snack.
focaccia history
It is believed that focaccia bread is an ancient roman recipe. It was usually baked on hearth in ancient times. There are a lot of variations in focaccia bread.
You can choose your choice of toppings to make this bread.
How to serve focaccia bread?
Focaccia bread can eaten as it is. Now, this particular recipe version I am sharing today is a crispier outside so I suggest to have it as it is. The softer version of the bread can be use as a sandwich bread too.
I personally love this focaccia bread with veg mayo. You can even serve this focaccia with our most popular hung curd and garlic dip too.
Tips and tricks to make better focaccia
Long rise is always better – The longer you allowed to rise your dough, the better the flavor and texture of the better will be.
leavening agents are important too. You can use either sourdough starter or yeast. Both the agents will give a slight different results. I am using yeast in this recipe. I will shortly update sourdough method too.
Do not avoid or replace oil – olive oil is again a very important ingredient to make focaccia. You can not replace oil with butter.
Don’t forget to prepare your pan before baking – preparing your pan by drizzling some oil is necessary to make focaccia. It not only prevents the focaccia to stick at the bottom of the pan but also helps to improve the bottom texture.

salt and oil – salt for the taste and oil for the texture.

how to make easy focaccia bread?
First thing first, Take a bowl and mix warm water, yeast and sugar together. For the warm water, I microwave my water for 30 seconds. Allow, your yeast to get activated. It will take roughly 15 minutes. Once the yeast is activated, you will see bubbles on the top (this is the sign to judge whether your yeast is activated or not)
Now, Into the yeast mixture, transfer your flour, salt and oil.
At this stage, you can add minced garlic and other herbs too to give the flavor to the bread.
Roughly mix the dough. I used a spoon first to mix all the ingredients together.
Once the dough is mixed properly, Use your hands and start kneading the dough. You may notice dry flour at first but once you start kneading the dough, The moisture of your hands will help to bring the dough together. note– sometimes, it depends on the quality of the dough, if you feel the dough is dry, add water using a single teaspoon.
knead the dough for 2 to 3 minutes. Dough should be elastic soft. If your dough is hard or dry then it won’t rise properly. Drizzle some oil on the top.
Cover the dough with clingfilm. let the dough rise for 1 hours at least. keep the dough in a warmer place.
After roughly 1 hour, you will see that the dough has risen and doubles. Sometimes it will take 2 hours.
punch the dough and knead for 2 minutes again.
take a baking pan and prepare your pan by spaying or drizzling some oil. Remember, if you don’t the spray the oil on the pan properly then bread will stick at the bottom.
spread and flatten the dough using your hands in the baking pan.
Add some toppings of your choice.
Drizzle some oil on the top again and allow the dough to be set properly. keep the pan in a warmer place for one hour again. note – Thi step is important. It will help the dough to absorb the flavours properly.
preheat your oven at 200°C or 392°F for 15 minutes.
bake the bread 200°C or 392°F for 25 minutes. Now, sometimes your bread can be ready in more or less time. start checking the bread after 18 minutes. I baked this bread for 25 minutes because I want the top surface crispy. If you don’t want this much crisp outer, then your bread will be ready in 20 minutes max. but again I suggest to keep checking as oven temperatures are different sometimes.
serve hot with veg mayo or any dip.
