Dal-Dhokli is the traditional Gujarati recipe.Being a Gujarati, There is no doubt that this recipe is very close to my heart.This is a dish considered as Sunday delights in Most of The Gujarati families. Friends, This is quite Different recipe as a spiced whole wheat Noodles (dhokli) boiled in a pigeon pea stew. This is the most comfort food we have in our Gujarati tradition. This is One-pot meal but it can be served with steamed rice too.
How to serve dal dhokli?
Dal dhokli is a one-pot meal recipe so you can have it alone. I highly suggest to have it with steamed rice as it enhance the taste of dal dhokli.
Can you store dal-dhokli?
No. You can not store dal dhokli because it contains fresh whole wheat spiced noodles which soaks the moisture by the period of time.

Dal Dhokli Recipe
Ingredients
for dal:
- 1 cup toor dal
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp clarified butter (Ghee)
- 1 tbsp Oil
- a pinch turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 small tomato , chopped
- jaggery to taste
- 1 medium green chili, sliced
- 1 tbsp ginger, grated
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 8 curry leaves
- lemon juice as per taste
- coriander, to garnish
for Dhokli /wheat noodle
- ½ cup whole wheat flour
- salt to taste
- a pinch turmeric powder
- a pinch red chili powder
- water to knead dough
for tadka,
- 1 tsp ghee
- 4 nos curry leaves
- 2 nos cloves, optional
- ¼ tsp red chili powder, for color
Instructions
- First, pressure cook daal with water for 4 whistles.
- Now, in a bowl mix all ingredients of dhokli and make a soft dough.
- Take a ball of dough and make Roti. Shape doesn’t matter but make sure that dough should be spread evenly on surface.
- now cut this Roti in diamond shape and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in deep pan.
- Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, when they crackle add curry leaves,tomatoes,chili ad ginger. saute it for a while.
- Add boiled dal into that and season with salt,chili powder,turmeric powder,jaggery. boil them for 2 mins.
- Now, in this dal mixture add the diamond shaped noodles and boil them well.
- Heat ghee in tadka pan,add 2-3 curry leaves and a pinch of red chili powder.
- pour this tadka on Dal.
- Garnish with coriander.
- Squeeze lemon at the time of serving.
- serve hot.
Notes
- Serve this dal immediately otherwise your dal becomes soggy.
- you can use sugar instead of jaggery.
