September 2018 – this is a festive month for us.

September is all about festivals for us. We had Janmashtami celebration and Ganesh Utsav as well. I already shared some glimpse on my Instagram.

For all those who wonder what is Janmashtami, it is the birthday of god “Krishna”. On this day, we used to do “puja” at home and prepare sweets, fresh butter(known as “makkhan” is Lord Krishna’s favorite item) along with the meal. This year, I prepared sooji halwa and some malai peda along with the fresh butter. I did pooja at home and later we visited a temple in the town.

7 days later, we enjoyed Ganpati Utsav. Ganpati Utsav is the Indian festival celebrating the birth of Ganesha. It is a festival that lasts ten days. We bring Ganesha clay idols to our homes, or to elaborate pandals (temporary stages). Every day we do “pooja” and request lord Ganesha to bring prosperity to our lives. The festival ends on the tenth day when the idol is carried in a public procession with music and group chanting, then immersed in a nearby body of water such as a river or ocean.

India is a country of festivals and our festivals are incomplete without Indian sweets. During Ganesh Utsav, we used to prepare ladoos and distribute ladoos to our family and friends as a “prasad”. This year, I made motichoor ladoos and the recipe is already HERE (in case you want ;))
