Coriander pulao(Cilantro rice) is a flavorful spiced pulao recipe made with fresh coriander leaves. This Dhania pulao is perfect party recipe and goes best with anar ka raita. This recipe is a pretty simple and one-pot recipe you can have in your busy weekdays too. Coriander is an English word for “dhania” so this pulao is also known as Dhania pulao in Hindi.
pulao origin
Pulao is the staple Asian food. It is also known as “pilaf”. Do you know? pilaf is the national dish of Afghanistan. The earliest recorded recipe for pilaf comes from the tenth-century Persian scholar’s book. His book has a dedicated section for preparing various dishes, including several types of pilaf. He also described the advantages and disadvantages of every item used for preparing the dish. Persians consider this scholar whose name is Ibn Sina as the “father” of modern pilaf. According to some authors, the Indian epic Mahabharata mentions an instance of rice and meat cooked together. [source – wikipedia]
Coming back to the topic, I love to add different rice varieties in my weekday meal because I am a hardcore rice lover.
what is cilantro pulao made of?
This pulao is made from fresh coriander paste(sounds like an indian pesto) and vegetables. When there is a use of mixed vegetables, There is always a choice to select veggies 🙂 choose veggies according to your likings.
I have used garlic, green chillies and ginger to give a spiciness to the rice. You can always adjust the amount of it. One thing I want to mention here is, I have used my very own homemade garam masala powder to give the distinct flavour to dhania pulao. Another thing I would like to note is, I have cooked both rice and masalas separately because that more convenient way for me but you can cook all together.
can we make this pulao in pressure cooker?
Yes, you can make this pulao in a pressure cooker. To make this pulao in a pressure cooker, Add uncooked masalas and rice in a pressure cooker and maintain the rice and water amount ratio 1:2 meaning if you are using 1 cup of rice then add 2 cups water in a pressure cooker and cook for 4 whistles.
