moong dal/yellow gram split
½
cup
raw rice
salt to taste

tablespoon
ghee/clarified butter

teaspoon
cumin

black pepper corn

cashews

ginger
chopped

pinch
of asafoetida

curry leaves
Instructions
add moong dal and raw rice in a pressure cooker.saute for a minute or until it turns aromatic.
add water and salt. mix well.
cover and pressure cook for 3 whistles on medium flame.
once the pressure settles down, open the cooker and give a good mix.
in a pan heat
ghee
.
also add cumin, asafoetida,curry leaves, black pepper, ginger and cashews.
saute on low flame until cashew turns golden brown.
pour the tempering over cooked rice and dal mixture.
give a good mix, add more ghee if required.
serve ven pongal/khara pongal with
coconut chutney
and
sambar
or
tomato rasam
.
