If you have some time then wash your dal and rice in running water and soak it for 20 mins. You can completely skip this step. However, soaking will help to cook lentils faster.
heat oil+ghee in a pressure cooker and add cumin.
add asafoetida.
add garlic and onion and saute for a while.
also, add ginger and green chili. saute for a while.
now add rice, moongdal, palak puree and mix.
add salt and turmeric powder and mix well.
add water and cover the pressure cooker with the lid.
keep the flame medium and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
garnish with fried onions and serve hot.
Notes
you can use either chopped spinach or pureed spinach. Both will give the same taste however there will be a difference in color.
You can add your choice of vegetables along with onions and garlic.
