Rasam rice is a nutritious south indian one pot meal recipe which is made from combining rice and rasam together. It is also known as rasam sadham in south indian homes.

Heat 2 cup water and add ½ cup rice into the pan. Cook rice until soft and keep aside(you can pressure cook it too).
Grate 2 medium tomatoes, grated and keep aside.(you can even make fine puree too)
heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan. Add 1 teaspoon ghee / clarified butter as well (ghee adds some extra flavor to the rasam). add ¼ teaspoon mustard seeds and ¼ teaspoon cumin. when they crackle add a pinch of asafoetida and 2-3 curry leaves.
add grated tomatoes. Add salt to taste. Also add ¼ teaspoon garlic, ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder, ¼ teaspoon red chili powderr and black pepper powder . Also add ½ tablespoon rasam powder too.
add 1 cup water and cook the rasam for 10 min.
add cooked rice into the boiling rasam. Add a bit of ¼ teaspoon ginger grated if you like. simmer for 5 mins.
Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot.
