Dosa is the most staple food from south india.You already know what dosa is.For beginners,Dosa is a kind of pancake made from fermented rice better.The origin of dosa is tamilnadu(i am not sure).In south indian region, it is known as “Dosai”.

Me and my family loves south indian recipes and so that we prefer to make all raw materials like masalas and batter at home only.
Some people like soft dosai but majority people love crispy dosa.You can make dosa from idli batter as well. The authentic dosa batter recipe is a bit different and i am going to share with you today.

The Total time needed to prepare dosa batter is depend the weather/temperature of the specific place.
It is rainy season here so batter requires 15-20 hours but if you are preparing in hot summer then batter will be ready in 7-8 hours.I recommend you to prepare all the procedure at a night before so that it can come out perfect.

Recipe Details for making Dosa batter below:

Soaking Time :2-3 hours

Fermentation Time : 10-15 hours
Main Ingredient :Raw Rice,Urad dal
Cuisine :South India
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Raw Rice 
  • 1/4 cup Urad dal/ split skinned black gram
  • 1+1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp yogurt
  • 1 tbsp methi seeds/fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tbsp Oil 
  • Salt to taste

Method/Assembling: 

  1. Take a bowl and soak Rice,urad dal and methi seeds for 2-3 hours.

  2. After it soaked properly, Drain well.
  3. In mixture jar, add all drained ingredients.
  4. Make a fine paste of these. Add water using spoon if needed.
  5. Transfer the paste in bowl.Add curd and mix well.
  6. Cover with lid.
  7. Put this bowl near stove OR in microwave.(microwave should be SWITCHED OFF).
  8. Put this bowl overnight or 15-20 hours.
  9. At time of use, Add salt and oil to make dosa crispy.Add water using spoon if needed.
Note:
  • You need to put your bowl in hotter place because hot temperature will helps batter to ferment.
  • Add Salt and oil at time of making ONLY.
  • Don’t add curd in hot summer as Curd is only needed in cold and humid weather.
