Hey friends, whats up there???
One pot meal combo is up on blog.It may be strange but YES i am such a BIG fan of khichadi recipes and i always prefer khichdi in my dinner. Best Khichdi should be liquidy and creamy in consistency.If khichadi meets its perfect texture,you will definitely like to have it plain as well.


I have created this combo using two of my MOST favorite recipes –  Gujarati dal and khichadi.
A bowl of dal-khichadi is full of vitamins and probably the best food while you are on diet*. It is very easy to digest. I Love to include this recipe in my diet plan…
Khichadi can be made with one dal or combination of two dals as well.I think Today’s dal-khichadi is the perfect meal specially when you are not in the mood to cook OR you want such a light and healthy food.One can not imagine dal khichadi without onions.But i really wanted to avoid spiciness so i made it without it and give the name to the recipe as “ Jain Dal-Khichadi”

Prep Time :15 min

Cook Time :10 min
Total Time : 25 min
Main Ingredient : Pigeon peas split and rice
Serves :1 bowl
Cuisine :Gujrati


  • 1/4 cup-Pigeon peas split/toor dal
  • 1 tbsp – moong dal
  • 1/2 cup -Rice
  • 1/4 cup OR 1 small -tomato ,grated
  • 1 to 2  green chilies ,chopped
  • 1 inch ginger,grated
  • Jaggery  to taste
  • 1.5 to 2 cup -water

Ingredients for Tempering/Tadka:

  • 1 tbsp –Clarified butter/ ghee
  • 1/2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp -mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp cumins
  • 4-5 curry leaves/kurry patta
  • 3-4 cloves
  • 1/2 inch cinnamon stick
  • Salt – to taste
  • A pinch of Turmeric powder
  • A pinch of Red chili powder
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing


  1. Wash your Rice and lentils in running water.
  2. Add 1.5 cup of water into pressure cooker and add washed rice and dals .
  3. Cover with lid and pressure cook them for 10-15 min on medium flame OR until it becomes soft.Keep the mixture aside.


  4. take a pan OR kadai.
  5. Heat Oil and ghee together.
  6. Add mustard seeds.When they crackle add cumins and curry leaves,cloves along with cinnamon stick.
  7. Add green chilies,tomato paste and grated ginger.mix well.
  8. Add salt ,turmeric powder ,red chili powder.
  9. Add cooked rice and dals mix them well .Add 3 tbsp water if needed.
  10. Add jaggery and boil the mixture for 3-4 min.
  11. Squeeze some lemon if you like.
  12. Garnish with coriander.
  13. Serve hot.
  • you can use sugar instead of jaggery.
