Recipe: Bombay Style Baby Potatoes | How to make Chatphata Aloo | Bambay Bataka |Monsoon Recipe

I love baby potatoes.And today’s recipe is Street Food recipe. I am not sure about the origin of this recipe but Chatpatta Aloo is widely known as Bombay Batata.In my Native , There is one another recipe called “Bhungara – Lasaniya Bateta ” is very famous in which Pototes are tempered with Garlic Tadka and Served With Yellow Ricepuff rings. I Will Upload that recipe very soon.
Moving Now to my today’s Recipe – This Baby Potatoes are Spicy in taste but the tamarind paste adds little bit of sourness. This Potato dish can be serve as Starter as well. This is the Perfect Party dish.I hope you will like this recipe.

Bombay Bataka

Prep Time : 15 mins
Cook Time : 10 mins
Total Time : 25 mins
Main Ingredient : Baby Potatoes
Serves : 2
Cuisine : Mumbai


  • Baby Potatoes –  2 cups
  • Tamarind Paste – 1 tsp
  • Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Tomato,Small size – 1 nos
  • Dry red chili – 1 
  • Turmeric Powder – a pinch
  • Red chili Powder – a pinch
  • Coriander – for garnishing

Method / Assembling:

  1. Pressure Cook Baby Potatoes for 10 mins.Mean While Crush Tomato and make fine paste.
  2. Now , Heat Oil in Pan. 
  3. Add Cumin Seeds.When Seeds Crackle add dry red chili,tomato puree,red chili powder,turmeric powder and salt.
  4. Mix Them Well and also Add Ginger garlic paste and tamarind paste.
  5. Add baby Potatoes and Mix them Well.
  6. Garnish with Coriander leaves. 
  7. Serve Hot.

  • I am Using Ready made Tamarind and Ginger- Garlic Paste.You can Use fresh Home made paste as well.
  • You can add Lemon juice as well If You want to add some more tangyness.
